Terry Holloway will be displaying his new work at MECCA (Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts) for their annual “Object Afterlife Art Challenge” exhibit in September. The new piece is titled, Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating In Space. The large 4 ft. x 4 ft. circular sculpture is carved out of spray foam and incorporates mixed materials to make up its geographical features. Materials such as electrical wire, broken vinyl records, and melted wax strips can be found painted and molded into the surface. The new work continues to build on materials, themes, and techniques that are common in much of the artist’s work, while also attempting to explore new territory in means of presentation and exhibition. The challenge was to create a miniature planetary landscape that could stand alone as a sculpture or installation, while also building a detailed artistic set in which to photograph dynamic images on its surface and from a different perspective.
The exhibit opening is on Friday, September 2nd from 6:00 – 8:00pm at MECCA, 449 Willamette St. (just to the right of the Amtrak Station.)
